News from NASCE chairman

During the past year, which was the first year as an established multidisciplinary joint committee of the UEMS, NASCE has accredited six outstanding centres for medical simulation and clinical skills training.

It is our impression that there is a great interest in NASCE accreditation not only in Europe but also beyond.

On September 14th and 15th the first NASCE scientific meeting was held in Istanbul. With a fairly short notice the local convenor Professor Emin Aksoy had put on an impressive program including several key note lectures, oral presentations of abstracts as well as a poster session. Furthermore a couple of workshops were held. Many of the participants also took the opportunity to visit the outstanding Case simulation centre.

During the business meeting the NASCE secretary Dr Jörg Ansorg stood down due to other commitments. Professor Paul Ridgway, Dublin was unanimous elected as the new NASCE secretary. Isabelle Van Herzeele was voted as vice chairman of the accreditation and review board (ARB).

During the fall of 2015 the NASCE office has moved to the UEMS office “Domus Medica Europea” in Brussels. The administrative secretary of NASCE is Ms Surya O´Hara (sections@uems.eu). In the executive we are confident that this will bring excellent support for NASCE in the future.

The new NASCE website is now up and running, and is found under the UEMS homepage but also directly through the domain name www.nascenet.org.

Dr Isabelle Van Herzele is preparing an excellent programme for the next NASCE meeting in Gent on February 25th 2016. Please refer to the webpage and to Ms Surya O´Hara for further information regarding registration.

Finally, a separate NASCE council meeting will be held during the UEMS general management council meeting in Brussels in the morning of the 23rd of April. Please refer to the UEMS homepage as well as the NASCE homepage for further information.
